late december updates from Talk Vomit
Everyone else has been sick for the last 2-8 weeks, right? Not that I wish that on you, but that’s the theme right now, yeah?
The editorial calendar moves forward fearlessly (ha!) in the face of winter illnesses, however, which means we’re getting ready for our winter quarterly launch. Expect this edition to look a little different in terms of formatting — we’re trying to really prioritize readability in the print product in 2024 — but as full of poison and play as Talk Vomit has always been, in terms of content.
Pre-orders will remain open on the website through Jan. 1. (We might extend a day or two, depending on how production wraps up, but that will be absolutely it.) If you haven’t gotten yourself a copy yet, there is time! These darlings are expected to arrive around mid-January, at which point they will immediately ship to your doorstep. You can expect the digital drop when print copies go out.
I’ve said it before, but I’ll say it a million times over: every dollar that comes in through print sales (or supporting this Substack, another option!) goes toward paying contributors and paying for the website. In that way, not only do you get an actual, physical independent zine in your mailbox, you also support writers about as directly as you can without Venmoing them yourself!
AND because there is only forward momentum and nothing else, submissions are open for spring. (God help us all.) The theme is revelations, whatever that means to you. More deets are on our submissions page.
I also want to add that submissions are considered on a rolling basis, which means that if we love your piece but it doesn’t quite match our lineup, we automatically consider it for next quarter. Just something to keep in mind!
Thanks, all, for a truly landmark year. Cheers to making and maintaining a space that feels like home.
xoxo
Monica
