Printing is underway... and... a question
hey guys, writing this as we are in the middle of sending the april print edition to the printer. if you’ve already ordered, we’ll get your copy in the mail this week. I’ve got the prototype in front of me and I know I’m biased but I think it looks pretty damn sick. we’re going to have a very very limited inventory still up for sale on the website (www.talkvomit.com/print), if you missed the deadline and want to slide in at the last minute. those will ship in the next week or two, too, depending on how fast they sell out.
meanwhile, the digital edition will go live on the site April 1! I think I’ve said this before, but basically, we’re going ~new yorker~ style with this, which means everything in print will exist on the web (in an extremely different format, obv), but not everything on the site will go into print. we’re already so f’n excited to get to work on the July issue, especially now that we have some idea of what the hell it is we’re doing.
this brings me to the second part of this note. before Talk Vomit went on family leave (shouts out to my one-year-olds), we tried a variety of income models — every dollar we brought in went to paying for talk vomit operations (the website) and to paying our writers and artists. because we went on leave and reassessed how we’re bringing in money, which included canceling our Patreon (because it felt out of date, too complicated, and not worth your or our time) we haven’t been able to pay our creators in 2023. we just don’t have any money coming in aside from the few shekels the print edition is slated to generate.
so! this is a long way of saying we’re opening/re-opening the option to support us by subscribing to this newsletter. while everything we currently bring in from the print edition will help pay for talk vomit the product, every dollar generated through supporting this newsletter will go toward our contributors. when will that start? as soon as we have enough money coming in to make us feel like we’re not insulting anyone. we’ll communicate that to you when it happens (and post rates on our website), and until then, not a dollar will be spent on anything else.
we’re providing options at the following levels: $5/month, $50/year, and $50-100/year for those able to go above and beyond
if you’re able to do this, we owe you our undying gratitude for helping us make a literary space that demonstrates how valuable artists are, and if you can’t, we get that entirely. paid and free subscribers will still get the exact same content. forever!
if you made it all the way down here, thank you. and thank you, anyway, for following along with us — in this and in life. we love talk vomit so much. thanks for letting us share it with you.
xoxo,
Monica
