we're back

Hello! Happy new year’s eve to you and yours. Just popping in with some (big for us) news: Talk Vomit is back.

It’s been 10 long months now that we’ve been on family leave — 10 months since I had the twins, to be specific — and Mary and I are over the gotdmn moon to get TV up and running again. I am personally also over the moon to be sleeping kind of regularly again and am not at all worried that writing that sentence down will jeopardize our tenuous household relationship to rest.

Because we are who we are, the website has undergone a fancy new refresh (thanks to Mary!!), and I invite you to take a look! Please send all praise Mary’s way, she deserves it. The homepage is now static, and, we have a fancy new “random read” button on the left side that I am particularly fond of.

Secondly, we are launching a quarterly PRINT edition this spring. As in, a good old-fashioned, 100% (y)ours, hold-it-in-your-own-two-hands edition of Talk Vomit. What appears in the print edition will complement what lives on the website. More details will trickle in about that in the coming weeks, so keep an eye out.

Book club will be returning soon — via chat! via Substack! — with, again (sorry for the teasing), more information to come. I’m just too excited not to mention it now.

I wish I had some parting profound idea to share with you, especially with the becoming-a-mother of it all, but all I’m currently able to think about is what’s for lunch. Just use your imagination. What a flipping year it’s been. Love you all.

Hello from Mary! I will also be wishing you a happy New Year’s Eve and am popping in with the same news - Talk Vomit looks cooler than before!

I spent a lot of time forcing myself to do nothing this year. I was not always unsuccessful in this, but when I was, it was a nice time. I learned to love sitting outside (my cats did too, they love it more than me and it is no longer a choice so good thing I like it). I am excited to get back into things here though and while I haven’t had the same busyness of raising twins in the last 10 months, the 10 hours of my life were a wild ride of getting this site up and running and functional, and learning shortcode (??) - I simply love to acquire new and useful skills. I also love pink, yellow, and orange apparently.

We contemplated launching the new site today versus tomorrow but due to our lack of impulse control and overwhelming excitement about the new look, we opted for today, obviously. There’s probably something metaphorical about ending a growing year with more growth instead of nostalgia.

We’re hoping to bring a lot more of a community feel to the site and through the substack in 2023 (think pre-twitter chat forums, maybe ?? still working this out but I cannot survive another year of Twitter discourse about every piece of media I consume - I need another outlet) so stay tuned and like Monica said, send us your submissions!
